The Best and Worst Advice We’ve Ever Gotten

We went around The King Agency office and asked everyone what the best and worst advice they’ve received throughout their careers. Here’s what everyone said.

The best advice we’ve received regarding our jobs and career paths:

  1. You don’t have to know what you want to do for the rest of your life right now. Focus on the present and stop worrying about the future.
  2. Crank out the easy projects so you can take advantage of the opportunities.
  3. Work to live, but don’t live to work. It’s great to enjoy what you do, but don’t forget to take care of yourself and foster a life outside of work.
  4. Focus on what you enjoy doing and don’t stop learning.

The worst advice we’ve received regarding our jobs and career paths:

  1. An employee’s primary job is to make the boss look their best.
  2. Do everything yourself and work more hours than you’re paid to work. That’s how you’ll move up the ladder.
  3. Dedicate your life to work.
  4. Play it safe

Here’s what we wish we knew when we were 20 years old:

  1. Don’t undersell yourself, and trust your gut.
  2. There is a lot more to life than your career. Don’t be afraid to take vacations and spend quality time with your loved ones.
  3. It will all work out, just not like you expected.
  4. Find good mentors, then pay attention and ask questions.
